At DatacomIT, we’re committed to preserving history by giving heritage collections a digital future. Over many years, we’ve proudly partnered with a number of government agencies and cultural institutions.
A project we’ve been progressively working on over the past three years is the digitisation of 19th and early 20th-century trade catalogues for a major state cultural heritage institution.
These rare and fragile catalogues document the evolution of Australian retail, manufacturing, and domestic life — from furnishings and fixtures to fashion and tools. Once only available to onsite researchers due to their delicate condition, they are now being carefully transformed into high-quality, fully searchable digital records.
Our role included.
- Non-destructive, high-resolution digitisation of these fragile and historically significant catalogues, ensuring each of the 100,000 pages was captured with precision, care, and clarity
- Detailed metadata and indexing to enhance searchability and support research across the collection
- Rigorous quality assurance processes to maintain the integrity of the original material
- Files were delivered in archival-quality formats, ready for long-term public access
This work not only protects valuable cultural records from deterioration but opens up access to designers, researchers, educators, and history enthusiasts around the world, without ever having to handle the originals.
We’re honoured to support government agencies and cultural institutions in their mission to digitise, preserve, and protect valuable collections. Through our work, we help ensure that historically significant materials remain accessible.
