Detlev is the Victorian Office State Manager for the National Archives of Australia. He is passionate about the preservation and digitisation of cultural collections and has worked in this sector for over 35 years which included working at the National Film and Sound Archive, Australian War Memorial, National Museum of Australia as well at International Conservation Services. Detlev is a professional photo and paper conservator with extensive experience as a preservation administrator providing leadership to the development of NAA’s strategic preservation & digitisation plans, standards, policies, and procedures as well as high-level advice to Commonwealth agencies on the preservation and digitisation and of Commonwealth paper and photographic records. When he is not busy managing digitising programs and projects he can be found in his kitchen baking bread.
Julian is the founder and CEO of International Conservation Services. He is deeply networked within the conservation profession and the wider cultural heritage sector both nationally and internationally. He regularly writes, speaks and commentates on conservation matters and museum policy. On the international stage, Julian is the President of IIC (International Institute for the Conservation of Historic and Artistic works). He is also Chair of the David Roche Foundation in Adelaide, President of ADFAS (Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Societies), and was a board member of the National Trust of Australia (NSW) for 10 years.
Robin Wright is Head Australasia and Asia-Pacific for the Digital Preservation Coalition and has a background working in copyright and digital technologies. She was previously Manager, Scholarly Resources at Swinburne University of Technology and Research Fellow at the Centre for Media and Communication Law, University of Melbourne. Robin has managed various research projects on the use of digital content by cultural and educational organizations. She has an LLB(Hons), MA and BMus, is on the Board of the Australian Digital Alliance and is Co-Lead of Creative Commons Australia.
Adam boasts substantial experience in digitising time-based media assets, from solution development to project management and delivery, ensuring exceptional outcomes for DAMsmart clients. With a background in marketing and communication, Adam holds a Master’s in Business Technology, effectively bridging the gap between technical execution and customer satisfaction. At DAMsmart, Adam oversees all project phases, from onboarding to final delivery, ensuring every project meets its objectives. His role involves meticulous planning, coordination, and working with a team of specialists to maintain the highest standards of service.
Ian has been working in logistics for over 25 years having been involved in all aspects of the industry, including general management, domestic and international transport, sales and marketing. As General Manager Domestic for IAS Fine Art Logistics, Ian is responsible for all operational components of the domestic business. Ian enjoys the challenge of working with new and existing clients, developing ideas, creating concepts and providing efficient solutions. During his time at IAS, Ian has managed numerous large scale collection relocation projects including, The Australian Museum, Australian Electoral Commission and the National Archives of Australia. He takes a great deal of pleasure in ultimately delivering the customer what they want and to the agreed service level.
Eamonn is in his 24th consecutive year at DatacomIT and is the business’ General Manager. Prior to DatacomIT, Eamonn was a ‘young man’ with 15 years ICT and management experience. Eamonn has been involved in establishing, managing, and delivering many large scale and complex digitisation projects for government agencies and cultural institutions. Responsible for the digitisation and digital preservation strategies at DatacomIT, Eamonn understands where the industry presently sits and where it may evolve. Eamonn has an Accounting Diploma and is a Justice of the Peace and also holds an AGSVA NV1 Security Clearance.
Richard joined DatacomIT with a strong technical background in IT in 2005 and has played a key role in the transformation of the business from a data processing company to recognised leader in the provision of specialised digitisation services, solutions and equipment. Although Richard works across all facets of DatacomIT’s services, his experience and expertise with a range of specialised digitisation equipment and Collection Management software solutions will come to the fore in our panel discussion. Richard has overseen the implementation of these specialised hardware and software solutions into well over 450 cultural and heritage institutions across Australia.
